GP10 and Windows 7 Home Premium

Is GP10 and Windows 7 Home premium compatible?

When launching GP10 Utilities or Great Plains my server name is blank even though I've created and tested my ODBC. The connection also works on the same computer when querying data through excel.

Where has my server name disappeared to?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Regards,

Louella

I tried it on 64-bit home premium and the only time the server was blank was when I did not use the 32bit driver. Maybe the .exe in the WOW64 folder was not used. As I recall that odbc32 executable is in more than one folder. Kind regards, Leslie

    Leslie,

I do face same problem on windows7 Home Premium 64 bit OS System . Created ODBC , My ODBC was not showing in Server option while running Dynamics GP utilities.

Please follow Vail advice and create ODBC from C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe and if your running Dynamics GP utilities please run it as Administrator otherwise you will get "Bulk" copy error.

Thanks L Vail for your advice.

    Thanks
    Sandip

    Hi,

Is the machine you are having problems with a 64-bit machine? Do you have v7 Home Premium installed on any other workstations? If you are still having the problem let me know and I will try it on the 64-bit machine I have here that is running Home Premium. It has never had any version of GP installed on.

    Hi Leslie

The apps on my server is Windows server 2003, SQL 2000 and GPv10. I just completed an upgrade from GPv8. I've also run into the ODBC problem on Vista machine when using GPv8 as you explained so I know about this problem but it didnt do the trick on the Home premium version.

I've attempted created the DSN both ways - the install does not fix it, still the blank server name problem. My ODBC connection is working because I can import data into excel using the same ODBC.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks,

    Louella

Re: GP10 and Windows 7 Home Premium

    Technically, no.

None of the 'Home' flavors of the workstation software is included in the system requirements. That being said, I will tell you that I have the 'Home Premium' version of both XP and Windows 7 working at some sites as training machines. I have run into the blank server problem when I was using a 64-bit server. Dynamics is a 32-bit program and as such needs a 32-bit ODBC dsn. If you are working with a 64-bit machine the 32-bit ODBC executable is in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe.

Did you let the installation create the DSN for you? It seems like I didn't have a problem when I let the install do it for me. You do have an ODBC connection created, right?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
