I am in the process of upgrading a SL 6.0 / BP 2.7 system to SL 2011 / BP 5.1. The BP requirements for upgrading indicate that BP must first be upgraded to version 4 before it can be upgraded to version 5.1. Is there an easy way to do a direct upgrade without having to do the intermediate steps?
Can the records in the mbfInstalledDatabases table be deleted and have the installation run as a "new" installation? The only existing components that I would like to keep from the V2.7 environment are the Users and User Role assignments.
Could I backup the mbfUser, mbfRoleUser and mbfUserWindowsIdentity tables first and then delete all of the BP objects in the database. Run the BP installation as a new install. Then restore back the contents of the 3 tables?
Thanks - Mark

I have the same question (0)Hello Mark,
You're right in that the supported method is to first upgrade to SL7/BP4 and then move to SL2011/BP5.1. However, you could try the following:
1. Backup the BP2.7 mbf tables related to the BP user records.
2. Uninstall BP 2.7 and remove the db objects (after first making a backup of the db's).
3. Install SL 2011 and upgrade the SL db's to SL 2011.
4. Install BP 5.1 (as though it was a fresh isntall).
5. After the installation, restore the data from the mbf user tables from BP2.7.
