Dev environment for demo's and development

Trying to figure out what the best path is for doing custom solution development for 365 or on premise CRM.  I have the Enterprise Trial right now which supports the development I want to do but it's just a Trial.  Suggestions on a permanent approach to development without paying a fortune for a real Enterprise license?

    Hello Peter,

If you are a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Partner you have access to the specialized demos website which allows you to provision a 90 day dev enviorment of all Microsoft Cloud products: https://demos.microsoft.com

For this you need to sign in with your Microsoft Account that is connected to the Microsoft Partner Network (MPN) and has an active Partnership status.

If your organization is a Dynamics 365 Silver or Gold Partner OR if you have an active MSDN subscription, you can obtain license keys for a 365 days dev environment for Online, or On-Premise, through Partner Network under 'Benefits'.

https://partners.microsoft.com/PartnerProgram/PartnerMembershipCenter.aspx , then click 'Orders and Benefits' > 'Download Software'

    (direct link https://msppdd.microsoft.com/msppdd/Home/Index)

If you have an MSDN license you can get the media for Dynamics CRM/365, with a dev/test license.

If you don't, you are basically stuck with getting trial versions of CRM Online or CRM On-Premise.

CRM Online Trial versions are for 30 days, and if you contact MS Support they can give you another 30 days.

CRM On-Premise Trial versions are for 90 days.

There are benefits to each, but main one is with Online you get the latest version of Dynamics 365 if that is what you are looking for.

Also consider that if you are developing for CRM Online using On-Premise you need to make sure all your development is in isolated/sandbox mode.

    Hope this helps.

I don't have an MSDN license.  Good tip on contacting MS to renew the trial.

I don't mind using the trials 365/CRM the problem is that I can't export my solution and import again.  I don't mind endlessly renewing but I need a permanent solution where I know my work won't be lost.

I don't mind paying but which license will give me the ability to create a solution for the lowest price? And where do I get the on site 90 days CRM trial?

    Hello Peter,

You mention you can't export your Solution and import it again? There should not be any technical issues here, the Solution mechanism is specifically designed for this purpose.

What kind of issue are you running into?

If you go the On-Premise route, you can export your database and then re-import it using the Deployment Wizard on the CRM server. This should allow you to keep your solution.

Is there a reason you are saying you can't export/re-import your solution?

Just tried it again and it worked.  Must have been glitch the last time.

It worked this time.  Last time it didn't download.  Must have been a glitch.   Do you know if the Business Edition of 365 supports solution development like Enterprise does?   Also, where would I download on premise CRM just in case I can't figure out a license I can afford for 365.

I've never had this much trouble trying to setup a development site...

    Hey Peter,

The Business Edition of Customer Engagement (CRM) will not be launched. A replacement has been announced, which will allow only limited customizations (can't go into specifics, they are NDA). Any serious customizations will always have to be done in the Enterprise product.

Ok.  From this link dynamics.microsoft.com/.../pricing  If I signed up for "Applications and offers

Start with what you need and upgrade to plans as your business grows." and choose Talent at $50ish a month will I be able to build solutions?  I won't use Talent at all I just need the platform...

Dynamics 365 for Talent is not built on Customer Engagement (CRM), it is built in AX.

If you buy Talent, you're getting the wrong product, unfortunately.
