How to work on Rewrite type of Page Template in D365 Portals

Hi,

Since portals are now online and come with 1 add-on with Dynamics 365 / CRM. I was looking around where to rewrite the Page Template of type Rewrite. Please help.

I believe we cannot access the aspx pages anymore for these online portals.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Short answer is you can't currently. Type Rewrite references the asp.net pages, which you don't have access to anymore in the online portal (v8+). For customisation of the portal pages you will need to do so via web templates, with liquids and bootstrap etc.

    Hope that helps.

Yes, I assume the same too. However, I couldn't find any proper documentation stating this officially.

Can you let me know in case you find anything? Thanks a lot. :-)

Also, I wanted to know that if it's still possible to write code for D365 Portals which are now online? I don't think so this is possible. Wanted to confirm.

You can only use the 'configuration' methods, i.e. you can't add custom C# code, but you can use Liquid.

Ok. So using Liquid is the last resort. Right?

From the standpoint of server-side custom logic, yes, Liquid is the only available custom code you can execute within a Dynamics 365 Portal. You can still use the same client-side CSS & JavaScript techniques via the fields exposed on different entities, content snippets, and web files, and trigger CRM plugins and workflows and other such custom code in CRM as the portal makes changes to data.

Hi Priyesh, liquid is not necessarily the "last resort". If you want to influence specific styling you might have to use a combination of bootstrap and liquid and create your own web template. Also don't forget you can influence behaviours using javascripts. You can embed javascripts either at the web page level or all the way down to the web template level. It all depends on what you're trying to achieve.

Ok great! However, my concern was around using custom ASP.NET application which existed earlier.

But I guess that we cannot have. Neither can we modify anything.
