Plugin- Copy status and status reason of entity to another

I am creating a new record and copying record's data to another through a plugin. All other fields are getting copied successfully but I am unable to copy the values for status and status reason to the new record.

I am treating the fields as optionsets but still, the values don't get populated.

i dont think you will be able to set the status at creation time- you might have to first create the record with default status and later you copy the status (update the new record)

I have to create the record to have the audit. So need this on create. Is there any other way I can accomplish this?
