Hi everyone,

I got this error in my event viewer

 " Monitoring test failed: Test Title: Help Content Server Tests.: Machine: DYNAMICS: ServerRole: HelpServer Test Log: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.
at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()
at Microsoft.Crm.Monitoring.WebHelpers.GetWebResponse(String webpage, Boolean setCrmAuth, Boolean useProxy, Byte[] postData, Boolean setUserAgent, Int64 dmzPort)
at Microsoft.Crm.Monitoring.WebHelpers.GetWebResponse(String webpage, Boolean setCrmAuth, Boolean useProxy, Byte[] postData, Boolean setUserAgent)
at Microsoft.Crm.Monitoring.Tests.HelpContent.VerifyHelpContent.TestDefaultHelp(TestResult result)
at Microsoft.Crm.Monitoring.Tests.HelpContent.VerifyHelpContent.Execute()
at Microsoft.Crm.Monitoring.Engine.MonitoringRuntime.ExecuteMonitoringTest(MonitoringTestBase test, Int32 attempts)"

Would you recommend any solution for this error ? I am not sure what is the reason for this error. I am running CRM 2015 on-premises.

Thank you very much,

    Hi Duc,

    Are you able to access Help from CRM?

    Is this a one time error or it appears multiple times in the logs?

    What is your CRM architecture? ( Front End Server and Back End Server)?

    Hi Oana,

    Yes, I can acces Help. This is multiple times error. It keeps popping in 20minutes. I have 3 servers for CRM. 1 for app, 1 for AD, 1 for Database

    I tried a solution by updating helpserverurl in SQL from Null to my http://xxxcrm.com but it doesnt work either

    Hi Duc,

    Thanks for the reply.

    We need to understand what it is trying to access when getting (404) Not Found.

    For HTTP traffic, could you please take network traces with Netmon - right before the 20 minutes elapse?

    Download link: www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

    For HTTPS traffic you might need another tool.

    Let us know if you spot the 404 error in the network traces.

    Hi Oana,

    I could not find which url that monitoring service was failed to connect to. But I noticed that, when I create a new clean organization, I can go to help page by clicking the ? button on the top right corner. But when I am in my main organization, it said page could not be found

    Hi Duc,

    Ok, so Help is not working. In CRM 2015 you have the possibility to set Custom Help Url.

    Do you have this enabled on your main CRM?

    Please compare the Help Setting you have in both orgs.

    Custom Help blog to identify settings:

    Same Problem here. It seems that this problem is connected to the SSL, because with SSL there is only port 443 configurated on IIS, not port 80

    Hi,

    I’ve noticed the same in my environment but believe I found a workaround.

    Suggested Action:

    1. Verify that Help is actually working, using “?”. If it does continue else fix the help issue.

    2. Create TestsToExclude.xml in ..\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Monitoring with the following contents:

    <!-- Specify any monitoring tests you wish to exclude from this server's runs, and place this file in the \Microsoft CRM Monitoring directory -->

    <MonitoringTestsToExclude>

         <Test isDisabled="true">VerifyHelpContent</Test>

         </MonitoringTestsToExclude>

    1. Test the Monitoring by running the smoketest.exe (..\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Monitoring\bin\SmokeTests.exe)

    2. Check the Result XML Report, should look similar to below:
      MonitoringResult.JPG

    NOTE1: Again, only exclude the test if Help is actually working and need to have everything “green”.

    NOTE2: Same can be used to exclude other tests, just add <TEST>Some Test</TEST> statement.

    Update: In latest versions of Dynamics365  <Test> tag should contain IsDisabled attribute like <Test isDisabled="true">

    TIP:

    Enable writing output to MSCRM_CONFIG.MonitoringResult table so you can automate Monitoring, alerting based on Status 1 (Error)....just my 2cc AND of course SCOM Dynamics Management Pack preferred.
