PSTL Item Combiner

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We have a Customer who has a complicated Item number schema that includes many blank spaces.  As a result they have a number of items that were setup incorrectly (too may spaces or too few) hence their need to use the PSTL Item Combiner to merge some items.

How does GP handle the inventory costs/layers and quantities when the two items are combined?  They have several hundred of these to work through.

Thank you!

    Re: PSTL Item Combiner

    Hi Susan!

GP Changes all of the inventory costs/layers and quantities as if the item had been set up with the combined number to begin with. There is no indication that the other item number ever existed (except for the item description if it were different).  Are they using any Average Perpetual costing? This can complicate things.

So, be careful. The only documentation you can get is the report that prints at the end of the process. I change the format to a more 'excel friendly' layout and save those reports to tab delimited files.

Be holding the backup in your hand (vs relying on someone else's) before you start. There is, of course, no way to 'uncombine'.

Good luck, the PSTL tools are awesome!

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
