Auto-updating of Roll-up fields

I have created a roll-up field to record the date someone last attended a "Meet the Dean" webinar in association with ClickDimensions/GoToWebinar add-on to CRM 2015. Essentially it simply updates the contents of this date field with the date a participant actually joined the webinar.

It works fine, successfully updating the field with the correct date if a person actually joined the Webinar. The only problem is the obvious one, due to the nature of the way roll-up fields work, I have to go into each CRM record of an attendee and click on the "refresh" icon for the Meet the Dean field and it successfully sucks the date the individual actually joined the webinar into the Meet the Dean field.

My question, is there any magic way to force CRM to refresh that field automatically? The ideal would be to do a "select all" from a view screen and then edit that filed, but unfortunately that field is automatically locked and cannot be edited in this fashion.

Any ideas on how to make this work the way I would like, or a better approach in the first place?

As far as I can tell (and I'll happily be corrected here, because it would make my life so much easier), there's no OOTB way to do this.  There is however a free plugin someone has created, which gives you the ability to add a real-time workflow to update the rollup field.  The plugin can be found at https://msdyncrmworkflowtools.codeplex.com/ .

Roll up fields do update automatically, but asynchronously every hour, and only for parents of child records that have actually changed. If you want to see results being updated in real time then you might be better off using a real time workflow, since you only need a single value to be updated from one child record to a parent record.

So if a webinar record is updated (eg to change status to "attended" or "joined") you can check if the attendee record meeting date is earlier than then webinar date already recorded and if so, update it with the new date.

Assuming by automatically, you meant automatically on change, and not automatically the next time the workflow happens to run...:-)   If you just meant the latter, then as the above poster says, it does happen automatically.  But not real-time, which is the dealbreaker for us.

Thanks, guess I just needed to be a little bit more patient.
