In the CRM 2013 if you open a record, it opens on the same window.
Is there any option to change back to the old CRM 2011 style?

Yep, we know that button, but the customer just likes too much the old way.

This is a by-design feature of CRM 2013, so as suggested by Guido Preite, you would need to choose the 'pop-out' button if you wish to open records in a separate window, you may refer this article for more information on this newly added feature community.dynamics.com/.../power-user-tips-for-crm-2013-navigation.aspx
