How to populate field data value from another field?

HI,

I searched throughout the forums on auto populating and i confused myself with the mapping and relationships.

My question is i have a field called number of employees in accounts form. i want to create similar field in opportunity form. The 'number of fields' data value in opportunities should be populated automatically from account 'number of employees' field.

It would be great if you let me know step by step method. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Venkat

When you create the Opportunity record from within the Account record the data will map over (one time, on create) after you have configured the mapping of the two fields.

After you have created the target field in the opportunity and published, open up customizations, go to the account entity, then go to 1:N relationships, select the row with the relationship to the opportunity entity. Then when that window opens up, select mappings on the left side and then select new from the tool bar. Create the new mapping. Save and publish all.

    Now it will work.

So... If the above answer is implemented, is it possible then to change the field value on the opportunity entity, without affecting the account entity?

That is correct - the mapping is one time when the record is created. Subsequent changes to the record will not impact the other record.

I have a related question for CRM 2013:

I have two custom fields (OCF-1, OCF-2 - look-up ) in the opportunity entity .   They reference two corresponding fields (PCF-1, PCF-2 - text)  in the Product Entity.  I need to create/update a record in a third custom entity (CE-3)

    1.  when any of the four fields change (OCF-1/2 or PCF-1/2).

    2.  when a new record is created for Opportunity or Product.

I think the answer you are looking for will be a workflow.

Correct.  I'm having trouble getting the Opportunity to see the product fields to create the record in the third entity.  I can create the OCF-1&2, but not the PCF-1&2.  And the reverse.

The Opportunity will create the record with opportunity data for OCF-1&2, but not PCF-1&2.  And the other way around.  If I could only compare the values in each entity directly using a sql select script...  Any info on how to do that?
