You would think there would be Wiki on this by now.
Installing with the service account.
Service account Provisioned as follow form the installation manual :
Assigned sysadmin role in SQL Server® and able to create a database
A domain user and a member of the local Administrators group on the server
A Management Reporter Administrator
Has access to the network share or SharePoint location to which reports are generated
Is a dedicated account with a password that does not expire
?This is somewhat ambiguous but, I added the service account to the DYNGRP on DYNAMICS and COMPANY databases
"Be an active user in the Microsoft Dynamics ERP system(s) that you are integrating with"
Is the Management Reporter 1st Administrator.

Based on the Installation documentation; there should be no issue.
- I have tried creating an SQL user to connect to the DYNAMICS database that is a sysadmin with access to the DYNAMICS and COMPANY databases with membership in the DYNGRP. Can't connect at all unless it is sa connecting to the DYNAMICS database. The option to user the service account to connect to the DYNAMICS database is not a feature of the installation.

From Dumpster diving the Internet:
I have confirmed that the service account user has a name.
This is the first time I've run into this error with an MR installation and while I have found references to the error dating back years, none of the solutions I have encountered have provided me with a solution.

I have the same question (0)It would seem that for reasons unknown, unless I install the Legacy component, this error doesn't go away.
I was hoping for a clean implementation without legacy but, that will not be the case.
