client login failed

Posted on by 70

Hi,

we have implemented a gp 2010 solution in a organization. We have connected all clients through ODBC. Now the problem is that when some clients not all try to login to gp, the system struck and login failed. Sometimes, successfully login and system strucks on another gp window after 4 to 5 minutes.

Regards,

saeed

    Saeed,

Richard is spot on with the 32 vs. 64 bit.

Try setting-up a 32 bit ODBC connection.  You will need to access the 32 bit ODBC administration from: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

Create your new ODBC connection and when you try to log-in to GP, make sure you select this from the "Server" drop down.

    Couple of things here:

    1) You have two users, one who can log in and one who cannot. If you attempt to login as the user who cannot on a computer where they can, are they successful? In other words, is it the user logging in or the computer they are using.

    2) Try to use an old SQL client to connect in your DSN just to see if it makes a difference. Create a new DSN and use SQL Client or SQL Native client and test.

    3) If all your DSN's connect properly, try running the GRANT.SQL script on your DYNAMICS and company databases.

    4) If all else fails, try running SQL profiler on your server and filter for just the user trying to log in. See if the trace tells you anything.

Have you tried going into the 32 bit ODBC administrator and testing the connections? If they work there then there is no network connectivity issue. Are your WS 32 or 64 bit?

    Re: client login failed

What is the OS of your server? What is the OS of your workstations? If your server is W2008  R2 with SQL Server 2008 R2 make sure your clients are using SQL native Client 10.0. If the server is W2003, try changing the SQL Client you are using. Create new DSN's using the old SQL Server or SQL Native client. I have seen this before and sometimes switching to the old client solves the problem.
