What would the steps be for getting this hotfix installed https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4075042/failed-connection-requests-from-microsoft-dynamics-nav-2016-and-2017
The CRM upgrade to version 9 is imminent so we'd like to get it installed asap. Are the steps the same as installing a CU update? Is the procedure as simple as it says in the link above "Uninstall your current Dynamics NAV server and then install a new instance by using the setup.exe from the installation media (DVD) in the following table." or is there more to it? We'll probably have a partner do the work, we're just trying to gather some info. Thanks

I'm aware of that but I was actually interested in the install differences. So this hotfix dvd can be installed no matter which CU we are on?
Anyway, I went ahead did the upgrade in an isolated test environment and it wasn't quite that easy, there were a few issues that came up.
1. Uninstall worked fine but the install didn't know what components were there before so I had to go through twice and make sure to get the dev tool and client.
2. Since my live environment is tied to AD, I had to change the service to a local account, and use a local database account.
3. For some reason our production instance had it's database name and web url removed but our test instance was left in tact. Is this because our partner used the default instance name?
4. Had to run a SQL command to unlock objects on the database.
5. Had to run the dev tool and update the schema
Totally new at this so we'll probably have a partner assist but we did get it working.
Hotfix will fix a particular issue and Cumulative update contains more than one fix and includes all the previous updates.
So it's a lot easier than installing a Cumulative Update as described here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3204818/how-to-install-a-microsoft-dynamics-nav-2017-cumulative-update
I couldn't find much online on the differences between a hotfix and CU. Thanks
I don't think there is anything more involved other than uninstalling the application, install with new DVD and copy the file. Better to test this in your test server first. Here is more info about the issue
