We used the counting groups in an warehouse where there were a lot of items with a high throughput speed. We needed those items to be counted in the morning within an hour before the rest of the company started working. So we divided them in 10 groups and set them to run periodically every 14 days (working days only). This way these items were counted all the time next to the counting of the entire warehouses.
Hi Muhammad,
Example 1
I have some items that I want to count once a week (perhaps high value items, or critical components). My other items will only be counted once a year, to satisfy my financial auditors. I create Count groups called 'Weekly' and 'Annually', give both groups the Counting code 'Manual', and assign each of my items to one of these groups as appropriate. Every Monday, I create a Count Journal and, on the lines form, I do Create -> On-hand. On the 'Create on-hand counting journal' dialogue, I set the Counting group to 'Weekly'. Lines are created to count only my 'Weekly' items. At year end, I create a count journal and use Create -> On-hand to create a count journal for the items I wish to count only once per year.
Example 2
I want to make sure I count each item once a month, but I cannot afford to shut my warehouse each time to do a full count of all my items. I decide to count a small number of items every day. I do not wish to count any item more than once a month.
I create a count group called 'All', set the Counting code to 'Period', and set the Period to 30 days. I assign this group to all my items. Every day, I create a Count Journal and, on the Create -> On-hand dialogue, I tick 'Activate counting code' (and I think I can leave Counting group blank). The first day, it asks me to count everything (because nothing has ever been counted), so I decide what items I think I can manage to count today, and delete journal lines related to the items I am not counting today. The next day, I'm not asked to count the items I counted yesterday, but I am asked to count everything else. So I pick the items I want to count, and remove journal lines for the other items. I keep doing this, until after I have counted everything. Each day after that, AX only asks me to count items which I have not counted in the last 30 days (and which are in stock).
Hi Guy, have you ever test the Period / Zero in stock / Minimum counting group and see any differences ? If yes, then I'm going to test them deeper because I wasn't able to distinguish the behaviour. For me it's only "for information".
Thanks
Hi Yohann,
I've never used (or tested) Zero in stock and Minimum counting codes (and I actually couldn't get Period to work properly yesterday on R3 CU9 when I was writing that!).
I did briefly wonder about Zero in stock - will the 'On hand' count really suggest to count something that is not in stock? (It is, I'm told, the easiest time to count an item!)
And for 'Minimum', it isn't clear to me where the Minimum quantity is actually specified.
I look forward to you blogging about your findings, but then I remembered I don't speak (or read) French! Hopefully Google translate will make a good job of it :-)
For the Zero in stock, I've tried without any success.
What works pretty well is "Physical transaction" (Create > Items / Create > On hand ) option and "includes item with nothing on hand" (Create > On hand)
I was wondering if I'm going to blog in English as well. I've started to translate some of my posts. It's in my todo list :).
By the way, things I shared are mostly things you should know so you won't miss a lot. The last one was about the "Find next" checkbox on Trade agreements.
I did appreciate the "cancel transaction for supplementary item" of your post I haven't try it for now.
thanx
HI Guy,
your explanation is too good to understand.
My question is what if a three worker is working on different Counting journal in same store.
so Item A is kept on three different Places and Worker 1 counted Item A 30 Pcs, Worker 2 Counted Item A 20 Pcs, and Worker 3 Counted Item A 50 Pcs so while updating the quantity what will be the end result if On hand of Item A I 100 Qty.
Tag Counting also the same question apply.
is their a way to use single counting journal at same time by three worker in Store and it updates the actual Counted Quantity of Item A by Worker 1 2 and 3 Respectively.
Thanks & Regards,
Husain.N.G
Hi Husain,

First problem you'll have is that you can't count a single item in the same Warehouse in different journals at the same time:
so Item A is kept on three different Places and Worker 1 counted Item A 30 Pcs, Worker 2 Counted Item A 20 Pcs, and Worker 3 Counted Item A 50 Pcs so while updating the quantity what will be the end result if On hand of Item A I 100 Qty.
If you have multiple people counting the same item (and get them to use the same journal), as long as they are counting it on different inventory dimensions (i.e. in different locations, different pallets or license plates or different batch numbers) then that's fine.
Tag Counting also the same question apply.
For Tag Counting, you can count the same item in different Tag count journals. Again, different people should be counting different inventory dimensions for this to be safe.

It's not possible to have a journal open for different users at the same time. They would have to co-ordinate opening/closing the journal lines form.
