Frx Install question: What is the correct way?

I'd like to know the "best practice" for running Frx 6.7 in a multi-user environment.

We currently install the full application on the local workstations. We intend using a shared sysdata directory. Do we need to install Frx 6.7 on the server under Program Files in order to create the shared sysdata directory the 1st time?

Do I need to keep Frx running on the server for future access?

Also, do I need to install the AA add-in and run the wizard on the server installation as well if we're planning to use the AA part of Frx in our reports?

Thanks in advance

I can't answer the part about AA, but for standard FRx, it depends if you are currently using it.   If not, then all you need on the server is a shared FRx directory for the Sysdata directory.  It is the directory where the reports are stored as well as company info.   So a standard install in this instance would be to use the default settings except on the window where the Sysdata is defined.   On the first workstation, point it at the server shared Sysdata.   All subsequent installs should be pointed locally (the default) and then changed after the install and SP are applied.   The Sysdata path can be changed in the FRxCFG32.ini (I don't have access to an install to verify the exact name but it is close to that).   The reason is when the install takes place it writes files to the sysdata so only the first should be pointed to the share.   For SP, if on GP 10 or 2010, use SP 9 and then SP 11 or 12.

Dan's advice is correct. Normally what happens is as follows:

    1. Create a shared SysData directory (blank) somewhere on the network.

    2. Install FRx from the server (if you want installed there) or from a workstation.

    3. During the install point the SysData to the folder you created in step #1.

    4. In subsequent installs install to a local C:\ directory for SysData and then modify the frx32.cfg (pre-SP9) or frx32config.xml (post-SP9). You can also just change the directory from Admin | SysData in the FRx Designer Client.

    Thanks
