What is the migration path from Pervasive SQL to SQL 2005?

Hi all,

I have a client that is currently on GP7 Pervasive SQL and I have to upgrade them to Dynamics GP10 on SQL 2005.

I have found the migration path for GP which is:

7.0 Pervasive to 7.5 Pervasive to 7.5 MSSQL to 9.0 MSSQL to 10 MSSQLor 7.0 Pervasive to 7.5 Pervasive to 7.5 MSSQL to 8.0 MSSQL to 9.0 MSSQL to 10 MSSQLOr

7.0 Pervasive to 7.5 Pervasive to 7.5 MSSQL to 8.0 MSSQL 2000 SP5 to 10 MSSQL

But  I am assuming I can't go straight to SQL2005, so I would like to find out at what point would I upgrade from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 on either of these paths? RegardsTricia Rennie

    Thanks so much. I'll try that.

    Don't worry I am doing alot of testing in house before I upgrade in the Live environment.

    There's no direct path to SQL2005, since the last Migration Manager tool was for GPV7.5, which pre-dated SQL2005. You'll have to use a SQL2000 intermediary.

    You're best bet is to perform as much of the GP upgrade on SQL as you can. Migrate from B-trieve to SQL2000 first on GP V7, then continue the GP upgrade on the SQL2000 system. Finally upgrade SQL to 2005. You also don't need to transit through every GP version. I'm not sure of the license implications, but I understand that SQL is backwarldy compatible, so if you buy SQL2005 licenses, you are also entitled to use SQL2000. In any case, you won't be using SQL2000 in production. You should be able to use this path:

    GP V7 B-trieve -> GP V7 SQL2000 -> GP V7.5 SQL2000 - > GP V9 SQL2000 -> GP V10 SQL2000 ->SQL upgrade

    Also, I very strongly recommend a test upgrade with full user testing, because B-trieve to SQL migrations can be challenging. It's a good idea to mindful of hardware changes as well - if you're intending to move to Server 2008 and/or an X-64 platform, then you'll need to do this after the GP and SQL upgrade.

    I hope this helps. Good luck with the upgrade!!
