Management Reporter Default Font

One of our MR client PCs has fonts that don't exist on the  MR server.  A user selected one of these as the new default font.  Once the setting was saved, no one could log into MR until the default font was changed through SQL.

How can we limit the available font selections to ones that are available on the server?

That's a fact. Missing fonts on Management Reporter causes the MR to crash.

I would be thinking of a simpler solution yet shorter path to get this done, which is installing the same "Fonts" already existing on the server to all client PC's.

    Mahmoud,

Thank you for the suggestion, but in our situation, we would have to work in reverse.  The clients have many more fonts installed than the server, probably due to installation of other applications.  We don't want to install unneeded programs on this server and we shouldn't have to delete fonts from our clients just to compensate for this issue.

So far, the most practical solution I can think of is to provide a separate list of valid fonts to all our clients that they will have to refer to when making font choices in MR.

It seems to me that if selection of an invalid font will cripple MR, the program should only present valid font selections based on what is installed on the server, regardless of what is installed on the client.

We do have a bug written up for this (352285). Development is aware of the issue but it is not yet scheduled for a particular release. I did let my tech lead know about this scenario and he agreed to run the issue through triage again.

In the meantime, you may be able to ease the issue a bit by installing Microsoft Office on the MR server. That should hopefully provider a broader list of fonts that are okay to use at the clients.

    Dear Ms. Sherri

Taking into consideration that MR has such an issue when it comes to changing the font, and considering the fact that there is not current solution for limiting down the fonts on client PC's

Having the same fonts on the server would put a limit for this problem, you will not need to consider further installations, just getting the same "Font Folder" among server and PC's regardless of the fact of which is more boarder.

    Hope this helps,

    Mahmoud,

Would you be able to tell me how we can set the same "Font Folder" among our server and PC's?  Is this a setting within MR or is there an external tool that would allow us to control where the font listing comes from?

    Thank you.

    Sherri
