Deleting an item

I am trying to delete an item but it tells me "You can't delete an item if quantities are assigned to it." The item has a quantity in returned. How do I get rid of this so that I can delete the item.

    Hello Linda,

Frank and Leslie are both correct. In your case I would follow the steps of trasnferring the Returned quantity to On Hand and then entering a negative inventory transaction (Transactions >> Inventory >> Transaction Entry) to bring the On Hand quantity to zero for this item. Then you will need to remove transaction history as it mentions in the below KB article, which I recommend reading through.

    Thanks!

    Hi Linda,

I presume you are wanting to delete this item from the Item Master. You have a couple of options.

If you change the item type to discontinued, have no outstanding transaction and zero quantity, you can delete it as part of the year-end close.

If you want to delete it before then, you need to not have any open transactions and then remove transaction history (delete transaction history) for that item in Inventory Utilities.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Transfer the quantity from Returned to On Hand, then use an Adjustment Transaction to write off the quantity On Hand.
