D365 F&O solution for Kit line items exploded on Sales orders

Hello,

Does D365 F&O offer any solutions to have Kit item on Sales order, but have the kit components exploded automatically and issued from inventory?

Currently working on a business scenario where:

Production model is Assemble-to-order (highly confiragble, simple)
There is no value added for a secondary process to process an assembly/production order or other
Needs to be able to add kit item to Sales order, but have the components exploded and issued from inventory via pick list
Sales taker needs to be able to see both the kit and component line item, but the customer only see the kit line item
Needs to be able to swap out kit components easily on the Sales order

There does not seem to be a lot of documentation on this, though this is a really simple scenario. The out of the box functionalities that I could find do not fit this application.

If anyone can point me in the right direction or has a solution for this, that would be great!

Hi,

You can follow the below steps to achieve the mentioned business scenario.

Create a Kit item and link the BOM

Add the Kit to the sales order and choose the option to explode the BOM line under the Sales order line menu.

Here you can make a selection that which kit component you want to add to the sales order line

Once the kit component is added to the sales line, the parent line will be canceled

Generate the picking list to complete the picking /kitting

Once picking is done, ship the sales order.

Hi All,

Thanks for the helpful suggestions!

The issues I'm seeing with exploding the BOM/ or Kit lines is that I lose visibility to the Parent part number being sold and what Qty. Since the line is cancelled after explosion.

Is there any work around to this?
