Add elements from other packages

Posted on by 362

Hi Friends,

I have created a new model with Reference packages as ApplicationFoundation and ApplicationPlatform. I would like to add the elements from the ApplicationFoundation eg:Table to the Project created in the New model. However i am not getting an option to Add to Project on the table. To my knowledge it should allow the elements from ApplicationFoundation and ApplicationPlatform as the new model is referring to the base models.Could you please clarify me on this.

Regards

Venky

RE: Add elements from other packages

    Hi All,

    Thanks a lot.

I was just analyzing the each reply and got to know that we add Reference packages to use the elements from the respective base models eg: variable declarations and extending the respective elements .

Moeen have you tried customizing any object belongs to this model? I tried once while customizing and thrown error, so we have raised a ticket to MS and got answered that these packages are locked for customization.

    Thanks,

    Sangram

I have done customization on the report of App Suite model. This is the most basic and parent model in hierarchy. The same way you can do for App Foundation etc.

It is locked using extensions, but not for overlayering.

    For overlayering, follow these steps:

Create model in existing package i.e. Application Foundation etc.

Right click on the element, and click Customize.

The element will added in the project. The name of the element will have [c] in the end.

You can now customize the element as per your need.

As per my knowledge 'Application foundation' and 'Application Platform' are locked for customization using overlayering

No, it's not true that you can add elements from other modules (packages). Each project is associated with a single model and can contain only elements from that model. Adding a references allows you *use* elements from other models, such creating a variable of that type (and extensions).

Note that both ApplicationPlatform and ApplicationFoundation are now locked, so you can't modify that with overlayering. Your only option is extending them by your own packages.

    RE: D365 Model Creation

There are two approaches for customizations in AX 365. They are as follows:

    1. Overlayering
    2. Extensions

If you are creating model in existing package, then you are doing overlayering and you can then add tables to your project or customize it.

If you are creating a model in your own created package then you are doing extension. You can only create extension of elements e.g. tables if you have referenced the Models in your model which contain those elements. Sometimes, it is not allowed and you have to create a model in existing package(overlayering) to do customization for the elements which are in Applicaiton Suite, Foundation and Platform.
