I am trying to create a report in Power BI to pull all of the General Ledger Transactions for the Month. Which entities do I need to use to get detail GL transactions? Thanks.
Hi CC Fisher,
Do you really want to do that by OData?
It will take very long until all the data will be loaded/refreshed.
For testing purposes that might be ok but for a production usage that's not the best way.
About the entity: Try the GeneralLedgerActivities
Best regards,
Ludwig
The General Ledger Activities file has only the balance for the month linked to the Main Account. I need the General Ledger Detail linked to the specific GL account (and not the Main Account).
If you are looking for al transactions then you can be look at information from GeneralJournalAccountentry table but doing Odata call is not recommended. Dd you look at option of using BYOD to create entities for tables you want to export to it and then do analytics on top of that ?
You can also look for forward for feature which is expected to come in August were you can export tables to the ADLS gen2
docs.microsoft.com/.../tables-customers-adls-gen2-data-lake
If I can not see the GeneralJournalAccountEntryEntity, is that because I do not have the rights to see it? You are right. That is what I need. Thanks.
There is no data entity for this table. This a a transaction table with huge volume of data. You can create your own data entity for this table and export data to your own Azure SQL db using BYOD functionality and build your report. I already suggested you to not use odata for this table , even if you create your own entity. Look for option of using BYOD or using aggregate measurements.
Not to segway from the OP, but i'm curious what criteria you would use to determine 'very long'. Do you have a recommendation on number of records? Sounds like this would be better served with Embedded SSRS, but it would take just as long to run the report wouldn't it (unless submitted to a batch)?
I had posted a question related to this earlier today as I am trying to put together a checklist of things to consider when choosing SSRS vs PowerBI as a report choice.
I am facing a similar challenge but in my case, BYOD and entity store is not an acceptable option as the business wants real-time data for some of these reports.
I have a need for live data, even if it takes a while, and a month of detail transactions. The entities I have are aggregates. Is there a way to get detail general ledger transactions from OData? Thanks.
Right now there is no way as there is no out of the box entity for GeneralJournalAccountentry.
Isn't it recommended to use Management Reporter for these kinds of G/L transaction reports? Or you have a specific need for it to be PowerBI? As said above, you'll need to build a custom entity.
