Export Solution/Import Solution Error

Hi guys,

To test exporting and then importing a solution (I've had no problem with exporting/importing .csv for data) I created a test security role, added it to a solution, deleted it from the system, and then tried reimporting it back in through my exported solution.

I have an issue where when I import the .zip (exported solution) back in to the system I get an error message "The .zip or .cab file could not be uploaded because the file is either corrupted or does not contain valid importable files"

It's an unmanaged solution so I should be able to import it back into the same system. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening.

If you have unzipped and re-zipped your solution files before importing back again - check that you have the customizations.xml at the root of the zip - rather than the unzipped folder.

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

I haven't unzipped the solution file, but If I view the contents I get this. Not sure if that helps at all.

    Hi JDMCRM,

Did you create any workflow, webresource or plugin? Otherwise you should have a folder for each of them, if was only a security rule you only have 3 files has show on the image, but did you save and publish all customization before export? Is the CRM version the same? Make sure there`s no components missing before you export click "Add Required Components" and do the test again.

    Hi hugo,

I didn't create a workflow, webresource, or plugin. Just the single security role was exported. I saved and published all customisations before exporting. I'm importing back into the exact same system; I'm just deleting the security role after exporting it and trying to import it back in again (just to test, as this is my first experience with it).

I don't get a missing components dialog box, so I'm assuming I have all the components needed.

    Hi JDMCRM,

You only deleted the security rule? and the solution? did you changed the version?

1). I created a solution and added one single security role to it.

2). I save and then export the solution (publishing the solution as I export).

3). I delete the security role within the system.

4). I try to import the solution I exported earlier. (reimporting it back into the same system).

5). I get the aforementioned error message.

The whole purpose of this is just to test exporting and importing solutions, but I can't get it to work. There should be no hiccups as I'm importing back into the same system.

    Try a new test.

    Create a new solution.

    Add a new security role.

    Export the solution.

    Re-import the solution.

    Publish.

Change the name or a privilege in the new security role in your instance.

    Re-import the solution.

    Publish.

Check to see if your changes were over-written.

    Delete the security role.

    Re-import the solution.

    Publish.

Do not make changes to the zip file.

Thank you for the list. Setting it out in that format made me realise what I was doing wrong. I was sub consciously going into >Data Management>Import, to do a solution import, when of course I should be in Solutions. I didn't even notice I was doing it, I just thought I was in Solutions.
