Material and component consumption and returns via mobile warehouse app

Good morning,

I have a question regarding manual consumption via mobile WH app and return components for production orders:

we will be implementing D365 Finance and Operations and I am currently looking at the component consumption process for our production orders.
We would like to use the Mobile warehouse App (advanced WH) to consume License-plate tracked components to a production order (eg consume LP1, quantity of 800 caps, into the hopper); at the end of the production order, we might have 300 caps left over in our hoppers, so I will need to 'return' those 300 caps (also via mobile app) against the License Plate LP1.

Question:
Will D365 F&O factor in those 300 returned components and adjust the relevant production order and accounting journals to have a consumption of only 500 against LP1 (or a positive consumption of 800 and then a negative of 300), if I use the standard mobile WH App Consumption / Put to production and returns process?

Extra details:
We will use the Pick for production function to stage the LP1 of 800 caps into our production input location and will also have a returns locations (both LP-enabled).

Thanks!
PS - apologies if this is not the right forum.

    Good morning,

Your setup good, D365 F&O will handle this as expected when using the standard mobile device menus for “Pick for production”, “Put to production”, and “Return material from production”.

When you consume 800 caps (LP1) via the mobile app and later return 300 using the Return material flow:

The system will record a positive consumption of 800 and a negative adjustment of 300, resulting in a net consumption of 500 in the production order’s cost calculation. (Better to test it out)

Both transactions will reflect correctly in the production order journals and inventory value, assuming the return is processed with the correct license plate and quantity.

Just make sure your return location is LP-enabled and set up in production control parameters, and your mobile menu items are configured to allow returns.

    Hope this helps,

    Zain
