Importing custom reports into GP

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have a few modified reports in a .package file that i need to import into GP. We have a multi-company setup. Do all users need to be logged out of GP in order to perform the import? i can't seem to find any documentation that explicitly states if users need to be out of GP during the import.

It sounds like one of two things.

    1) You have not given rights to the other users for this report.

    2) You have not published this report to the shared reports dictionary.

    So the potential solutions are:

    1) Tools->Setup->System->Alternate Forms and Reports. Enter the ID and make sure that your users and yourself share this same ID. Then give rights to use this modified version of the report.

    2) Tools->Setup->System->Edit Launch File and highlight MS Dynamics GP. Make sure you are pointing to the shared reports dictionary and not your local copy. If a change is needed, make sure you exit GP and re-launch. Having done this, them import the package. This will import the report into the shared REPORTS.DIC

Please let me know if this resolves the issue.

    Hi Richard,

There is a shared location which my users access.

I need some guidance with the procedure to modify an existing report and make these changes available to users which is not happening at the moment

I am able to view the changes alone not any of my users. I am trying to do the changes and import from my local machine but the users will be accessing it from a shared location.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ankitha

That will depend on whether you use a shared reports dictionary. If it is shared you will need everyone out except yourself. If it is not shared, you will need to go to each workstation and import the new report individually.
