Upgrrading Standalone Dex System to Dynamics 2018 and latest Dex (2016?)

We have a standalone application written entirely in Dexterity. The only relationship we have with Dynaimics is that we may transfer some files into Dynamics for those users that have Dynamics. Do we need all the bells and whistles when we upgrade to the next version of Dex to interface with the latest version of Dynamics? If so, what do we need to do. Instructions that I get off the net are very vague as to how to install everything. Can anyone help?

Dexterity is backwards compatible.

You should just be able to install the later Dexterity versions and compile the Dictionary.

Use the Dexterity install in the Tools folder on the DVD images.
