Exporting Standard Reports to Excel

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

As System Admin for our Dynamics 2010 application, it has been brought to my attention that the end-user is unable to export directly to Excel.  There is an option in the menu bar under file to Export to Excel but it is grayed out and can't be accessed.  I have reviewed the Installation and System Administration guides, but have been unable to find a way to enable it. Can anyone shed any further light on this?

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance,

Joanne Herzog

    Hi Joanne

You cannot export the standard reports to Excel. If you print the report from a Report Options window, you can't export it. The Excel button enables itself when you select a report that is exportable. Things like the trial balances, posting reports, inventory turn, etc. are reports written in Report Writer that cannot be exported.

An easy way to tell what it was written in is if when you print the report to the window and there is a 'Modify' button at the top of the window, you can't export it. If you launch the report from the Reports content pane on the Area pages, you can't export it.

So, nothing's wrong with your system, all reports are not exportable. Plenty of other areas where you can export. SmartLists, Navigation Lists, or open one of the excel reports that come with the system.

Hope this is what you need!

    Kind regard,

    Leslie

I learned something new.  I don't think I've ever run across a "self-enabling" button before.  It seems somewhat counter-intuitive that there would be a button present that can't be enabled.  However, thank you for your timely response.  I can now move this request to the "Done" column.

    Regards,

    Joanne

I think you can save the reports to "Tab-delimited file" format instead of exporting to excel and then use excel application to open this file.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Soma,

While it's true that you can print the report to a text file, opening it in Excel will yield a very ugly report indeed. I do not think I would call this 'exportable'.

    Kind regards,

    Leslsie
