Merge Contacts but exclude certain types of Contacts from being merged into another Contact

Hi all,

When merging 2 Contacts a user is allowed to select 2 Contacts with one being the 'main record' (that will be kept) and another record that will be made inactive by merging it into the main record. Our CRM interfaces with another application and that other application is leading for certain types of Contacts. The problem is when merging 2 Contact records there is no way to force a user may never merge a Contact from the other application into another CRM Contact. If a duplicate is spotted, a user should always merge the CRM Contact into the 'leading application type of Contact'. Does anyone know a way to accomplish this?

Regards,

Amber
