Changing an Inventory Item to Track Lots after it has Activity

Posted on by 1,817

Hello,

I have a customer that uses Lot Tracking on most of its Inventory Items. One part of their Inventory that we did not track lot information, they now need to track it on those items too.  I know that they can set up new item numbers but this customer uses Bill of Materials which would require modification of a great many Bills.

My idea is to adjust out the quantities for these items . Create a SQL Script to change the items to be able to Track Lot Numbers. Then adjust in the quantities with their Lots.

If anyone has a better idea or knows of any utilities that can make this easier I would appreciate the help.

Thanks,

David

What you have suggested is probably the only option you have.

Why do you need to ceate a script to update the Item Master table? Is it because you have a lot of items to update?

I haven't tested this (changing the item tracking options through SQL) - but you could record yourself changing one item and then create a macro to update all your other items - this is better than doing it through SQL as it replicates a user manually making the change.

Not saying that doing it through SQL won't work though.

    Ian.
