I want to remove certain items, with serial numbers, from Inventory Control reports.

Periodically we have Returned an item from a customer or classified it as Damaged. This shows on the count on Item Inquiry. Subsequently we have scrapped the item. However, it still shows, along with its serial number, when we run certain reports such as Serial Number List. How can we permanently remove an item in Damaged or Returned status?

The question is, what do you do with these items as after they are returned from the customers ? The system provide a way to classify these items as "Damaged" or "Returned" for a temporary period of time until a final decision is made.

If the decision was to damage them permanently, you should transfer these items from the "damaged" status to the "On-hand" status and then post an adjustment out for these specific serials to take them out of you inventory and GL.

The inventory offset account should consider an expense account to record the amount of damages in your inventory

Then, these items/serials will not printed on any of your inventory reports.

Mahmoud, this is very helpful. I understand now how to clear them out. I am not familiar with the option for a temporary period of time until a final decision is made. Can you point me to where/how that is done? THANKS!

Initially, you can not take these serials out of your inventory until you transfer them from the "Damaged" to the "On Hand" status

Go to Transactions > Inventory > Transfer

Enter the same location on both fields (from location, to location)

Click on the "Quantity Type" button, and choose to transfer from "Damaged" to "On hand"

Once you type in a quantity, the item serial number window will pop up. Choose the specific serials which are categories as "Damaged" and post the transfer

Now you can go to the Inventory Transaction entry window and post and "Adjustment Out" for these serials as they will show up for you to choose.

Mahmoud,

I scrap damaged inventory by serial numbers and follow the process as you outlined, but I am unable to change the unit cost to actual cost of unit being scrapped. Any suggestions on how to adjust out the actual cost of unit being scrapped?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
