When applying the Service Update 10.0.21 to my VM, I am getting this error:
Preparation failed
There is no log. Can someone help?

would you please restart the VM from LCS and tried again?
I tried that. I also tried shrinking the db logs.
1. Is the VM running? Even if the status in LCS is "Deployed" it might not be running.
2. Have you changed the password of the Admin account or any other accounts? You should not change it.
3. Perhaps you don't have enough space on Service volume (K) - try to clean up old deployable packages from DeployablePackages folder.

First thing - Please make sure the VM is running in Azure, if this is a cloud-hosted environment. Even if the status in LCS is "Deployed", the machine could be stopped from Azure. Once this is confirmed and you have also checked above proposed solutions, which are indeed useful, please make sure you resume the operation at least 2 times, as sometimes the preparation step is timing out due to transient issues. Is still unsuccessful, please raise a support request so we can further help you, as we have better visibility of the logs through our telemetry, which will indeed help us decide on the cause and possible next actions.
