Reporting options business portal

ReportReport
Posted on by 150

I need to get some reports posted to the business portal for project magagers and some financials reports. mainly I want to design each report (using the standard reports on SL system) and have users select the following:

- Start date  - End date of the report

some report will have: by project manager or business manager

The report should stay the same but just offer the user to enter those criterias and ablitiy to print it.

I have looked to report scheduler which is kind of trouble as you have to have it open in order to post the reports.

So any ideas of implementing this! thank you,

    Re: Reporting options business portal

    hi

thank you very much for your support, I have already made in SSRS reports in sql 2005 and are already placed on portal business, and work well, just that the detail is needed when the user changes on a website, the report showing the information from this company, I have set my report to accept a parameter, but not as him to get the id of the company through the portal, reading I found a library in C # that could be incorporated to achieve this, but I need to compile this library microsoft.dynamics.common.company reference, which I do not have it, if any of you have it or I could do for deicrme how or where to get it, well they are going to thank, or the same if you can tell me if there is another way to get the name of the database is selected at the time of change on a site would be helpful.

I hope someone can get an idea of how to fix this, thank you very much beforehand

Just seeing this. Not sure if this is still an issue for you, but if it is:

You should be able to set up the report so that the Start and End date of the report are entered via ROI (or BP's ROI equivalent in Report Scheduler).  We frequently use the LongAnswerXX fields for this. You can set up a Template to help with this.

I'm guessing by Project Manager or by Business Manager is a different sort?  If so - you can have two different report formats and let the user choose which one they want to run.

Having said that - your other issue is giving end users access to the Report Scheduler, since by default it's only available in the admin section of the site. We've been able to get around that by putting a link on a regular center page.

We've got a client who has gotten us to do significant customizations to the BP reporting infrastructure. Not always easy, but we've been able to do what they need. If you'd like to discuss further, just let me know.

    Aloha,

There are some standard SSRS reports included in SL 7, however they are only compatable with SQL Server 2005 SSRS report engine (even though SL 7 is compatable with SQL Server 2008 database).  So, with our organization being on SQL Server 2008, I am not able to vouch for their relevence.  Also note they are only available from within the Dynamics SL application and are not deployed to Business Portal during installation.  To have the reports accessible from within Business Portal will still require someone deploying them to an integrated Sharepoint environment.

let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks Scott for you reply. Are there any standard reports (SSRS) that comes with SL 7.  Best Regards,

    Aloha,

This is quite easy to accomplish if you have integrated SSRS with Sharepoint.  The SSRS reports can be filtered by login name with additional security (if required) administered at the Sharepoint level.  What I have done at my organization is to supply a master project list with high level budget and actual data that is filtered by the login user showing all Active Projects where the logged in user is either the Project Manager or Business Manager.  Then I have drill thru reports off of this master list to retrieve details on Labor, Procurements, Budget Revision history, etc…

I found this path much easier to maintain than the built-in report scheduler, plus it is much simpler to deploy additional custom reports.

    Hope this helps.
