New Customers not showing up in the Business Relations -registry.

Hello,

We are using Dynamics AX 2009. We upgraded from Axapta 3.0 a year ago.

In Axapta 3.0

We used to create cash customers directly as customers (in the CustTable), and other customers, whom required payment terms eg, through prospects in the CRM (in the smmBusRelTable), which we then converted into customers.

Even customers that we created directly as customers, showed up in the CRM as business relations. This was quite important to us.

In Dynamics AX 2009

When we create a new customer directly through our sales module (in the CustTable) it is not created in the CRM (in the smmBusRelTable).

Any help on this matter would be highly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Pontus Stråhlman

It does not work this way in AX2009. There is a funciton to create a customer from a business relation that will link the two and mark the business relation as a customer type. However there is no reverse automation. Whilst you can manually create a business relation and then from the customer link it the status of the business relation can never be customer. I cannot comment on 3, but there is a lot more functionality in CRM now and it has been redesigned, so you cannot assume a process in 3 is the same in 2009, especially if it is important to you.

I know I cannot assume a process in 3 is the same in 2009, but I would have expected our IT-consultants to know the difference between 3 and 2009 ;-)

You said that "Whilst you can manually create a business relation and then from the customer link it..." Could you please give a few tips on how to do that? I did not find any easy way of linking a customer to a business relation, but as this is very important to our sales processes, I'm prepared to go the distance!

    Thanks in advance!

It would have come up if you had gone through your processes with the consultant, especially as it is important to you. There are 1000's of differences between the versions, but only 20% may impact on you - would you be willing to pay a consultant to go through the 80%? Also your own internal testing should have picked it up. There is so much in these systems nowadays, even without your specific modifications, that you need to manage this process, and unfortunately invest in it.

Anyway I do not have access to the software at the moment but go to a customer in the overview tab and there is the yellow GAB indicator, double click on this. From the "Setup" button you can then create a business relation which links it to the customer. Or Go to CRM - Global address book details and highlight the customer. Click on Setup > Business relations and create a new business relation. Note that the type is Prospect and not customer

Yes, well, if you make it clear to your it-partner that you use crm and that you also create customers directly to the customer data base, one would have thought that a Gold Partner would have realized the problem in our routines.

Oh well, it was rather easy to create the customer into crm as a business relation, so the problem really was not as big as I eventually thought.

So thanks a lot for the help! It would be perfect of course if there was a way to change the business relation from Prospect to Customer, but this solution was definitely enough for our needs.
