Move MR 2012 legacy from test server to prod server

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am looking for up to date step by step instructions for copying an MR 2012 Legacy installation to a production server. Data Mart is not involved with this move. Everything I am finding mentions Data Mart. The customer would like to maintain the test MR 2012 setup as well as the production setup. I know the MR database needs to be backed up and then restored to the new server. I know the building blocks need to be exported on the test server and then imported on the production server. Is it a simple as -

1- Backup test MR database

2- Export building blocks from test MR

3- Install MR 2012 on production server

4- Restore MR database from test server

5- Run SQL Script to reset MR password used for encryption

6- Import building blocks from test server

I am sure that I am missing something here.

Thanks,

Bill

RE: Move MR 2012 legacy from test server to prod server

    Hello Bill

There is a detailed support article that I have always considered as a reference when it comes to moving MR to a new server, How to move Microsoft Management Reporter 2012 to a new server

One thing to consider, although it is listed under Dynamics AX, it does apply to GP as well.

Let us know if you have any further inquiries,

    William,

I believe you are correct that it is pretty simple.  After installing on the production server and setting up the legacy connection, you can import your companies from GP again.  I think that is the only step you didn't mention.  Otherwise, I've followed the directions as you stated in the past and successfully migrated from a test environment to production. Once you restore the database and import the building blocks, you should be good to go.

    I hope this was helpful,

    Thanks.
