Security Role - Assign permission

So my searching is just turning up assigning roles to users rather than on the assign permission.

I have a parent and child business unit with users in each.

If I give a user in the child BU org wide assign permission, does this mean they'll be able assign records in the parent BU to themselves, or assign their own records to users in the parent BU?

    They'll be able assign records in the parent BU to themselves. The level (e.g. organisation level) of the right affects which records the action can be performed on, rather than to whom the record can be assigned

    I think it's a bit more twisted - they'll have to have "read" on the org level to be able to see those parent BU records in the first place.. then they'll be able to assign (nothing to assign if you can't even see it). So the answer is, probably, "both".. but only if they have "read" on the records they'll be trying to assign

    Thanks both for your replies. They do have read access across the org but I just needed to check that they would be able to assign the records to themselves to work on.
