Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Outlook fails to save user credentials

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

We have deployed the Dynamics 365 for outlook plugin on Windows 10 for many users across our organisation. The users are able to configure the client for outlook and everything works until a restart. When the user restarts his machine, all his configuration is lost and user is forced to go through the authentication and configuration process again. User receive a prompt to launch the configuration process as soon as the outlook launches after the logon. Is there any way to resolve this issue and make sure the user credentials are cached.

The process user follows to configure outlook is :

1. Install Dynamics 365 for Outlook plugin.

2. Close and reopen outlook and run the "Configure Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Outlook" under the Dynamics 365 tab in outlook.

3. Enter the Dynamics 365 portal web address and enter the credentials on the organization's sign in page.

4. Let the synchronization process complete and use the plugin.

The above process works fine but as soon as the user restarts his machine, the user is forced to go through the process again.

We have also tried configuring it from start menu and see if it works but could not get it to work.

Any inputs or suggestions here to resolve our issue are much appreciated.

Thanks,

DynCrk

Thanks Sanket. Will try this and see if we can identify any issue with in the trace logs.

I believe the local cache file is being deleted during restart but will check and confirm.

    1. Are you using any proxy file?

    2. Set up fiddler and see what exception occurs when you reopen the outlook.

    3. from start -> Program->Diagnostics->Advance Troubleshooting set Trace=Error. Collect the log from C:\Users\sapatadi\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSCRM\Traces\*.-OUTLOOK-Client-.*-1.log and see what is it preventing.

    4. The only case this happens is when you have proxy file and your server/firewall throws messagesecurity exception or the local token cache file is deleted otherwise it maintains the user session.
