When loading customers using integration manager, Notes are being truncated at 250 characters.  Can't find why this is happening.

    jerry,

Steve provided the nice solution for your issue. Have you tried that?

    Hi Jerry,

Please use eConnect Adaptor to integrate the Notes field and make sure the characters in the Notes field are not truncated

Of course, in the meantime, Steve has also come up with what looks like the solution.  Nice to know that solution Steve.

    Hi

Don't know why it happens, but I can confirm that I just tried it and experienced the same issue.

I thought I would try a work around by recording a macro to do the population of the note.  The macro kept crashing with trying to put a large note in.  Integration Manager into the standard objects also works based on macros - so that could be a clue - it just can't handle the extra time it takes to populate the data.

Have you tried doing the integration using the eConnect object destinations?  I don't have those installed in my environment so can't check that out at the moment.  If I get a chance to try tomorrow I will.  If in the meantime you find a solution, please update.

    Cheers

    Heather

    Hi Jerry,

Well, I stand corrected.  In my first test, I used a Constant value in IM to assign a long string value to the Note field.  That worked fine.

But then I figured I should test a long value in the Text source data file to confirm.  I just tested a long Note value in the sample Customer import Text source data file and can confirm that the value is truncated at 255 characters with the text file type.

I'm pretty sure that this is due to the Text data driver that IM is using to read the text source data file.  I suspect the data type of String is limited to 255.

I just did a test using Excel as the data source, and with that change, it allowed me to have a column of 65534 characters.  My long note over 255 characters imported fine.

That is probably the simplest workaround--convert your source data to an XLS file and then add a Named Range so that IM detects it.

Let me know if that is an option for you.

    Hi Jerry,

I just tested IM on GP 2013 R2 and was able to import notes greater than 250 characters, so it seems that notes should import properly using the standard GP destination adapter.

    A few questions:

What is your data source?  CSV file, tab delimited file, Excel file, database?

Which destination adapter are you using?  GP or eConnect

If you open the properties of your source adapter, do you see any indication of a length for the note text source field anywhere?  Like String(250)?
