Error During MS Dynamics SL 2011 FP1 Client Installation

Hello,

We seem to suddenly have an issue with the SL 2011 FP1 Client installation. When we start the installation, Click Next, we get an error message: Could not determine the file size for O:\Applications\swimapi.tbl. We have not had this issue before. The main location for SL 2011 is on a server with the client installed on desktops. Any idea what might be causing this?

Thanks,,

While this is an odd message, if you had not tried this then try right clicking the setup.exe file and select run as administrator.  Not sure this will resolve your issue but is worth the try.  Also, what version of Windows is on the offending workstation?

Right Clicking doesn't work (Administrator). These are Windows 7 machines.

That works fine on my Windows 7 workstation.  I open the folder in Windows explorer and right click the setup.exe file and a pop-up opens where run as administrator is available.  Are you saying you do not get the pop-up or that run as administrator is not shown?

I am already an administrator in our group. Even if i do the Right click and Run As, it doesn't give me any pop up. The Run-As administrator is there but it doesn't do anything different.

OK, it appears that the O drive is a mapped drive to the server.  It also appears that it is mapped to the folder just above the application folder (possibly SL depending on how you installed SL).  It still sounds like a rights issue or an issue where the swimapi.tbl file is in exclusive use.

I would try the following.  From the offending workstation open the O:\application folder in Windows Explorer and try renaming that file to a different name and see if it will let you.  If it does, then you have full rights and you should rename it back.  If it tells you that you have insufficient rights then there is your issue.  If it states the file is in use, utilize disk management \ shared files on the server to see who has that file open and release their hold on that file.
