Lead Conversion - Customising the Lead Status Options

Hi guys,

I have found out how to customise the sub-values of the lead status (eg: 'Lost' as a sub value of 'Disqualified'). However, I want to add a separate status to the main values.

How do I do this? (I want default options of open, qualified and disqualified - while also wanting to add 'inactive').

I wish to do this for the purpose of creating a workflow that stores 'inactive' leads while hiding them from all reports information, value estimation of leads ETC and then create a workflow that automatically converts the 'inactive' lead to an 'open' lead once we reach a specific date as outlined by an alternative entity.

    Hello JacquiNZ,

As Guido pointed out, it's not possible to add another Status. My suggestion would be to make a custom field on the entity with the corresponding "status". Please bare in mind that this will only be a status in name, but should be usable to trigger the workflow.

    Hi Jacq,

The only possible thing is you modify the Status Reason field (the secondary status) not the Main Status of Lead or any entity.

    Thanks.

Thank you for your response. Would a different field have the ability to 'hide' leads that aren't yet ready to be seen? Or would it be best for me to create another entity that links to the lead prior to the lead stage and then converts itself automatically to a specified date?

Whether you add a status reason to the "Open" status, or use a second custom field, none of these options will automatically hide these Leads from all views or reports. You would need to explicitly filter them out, and of course any user doing their own personal views might forget to do this.

A couple of options that might be better:

    1. Use another entity to store the "pre-Lead" information and use Workflow to convert when they reach a given date.

    2. Add a Business Unit and assign the inactive Leads to an owner in that Business Unit (the default team for the BU would seem ideal - it will need a security role with at least "User" level read privileges on the Lead entity). The Team does not need any users in it, you are using it only as a placeholder. Make sure all users have security roles that only grant access to Leads in their own Business Unit, or use Parent:Child and make sure they are all in a BU that is not a parent of this new one. Use a Workflow to reassign the Lead at the specified date. You might need a custom lookup field to store which User it will later be assigned to.
