Fixed Asset Migration

Hello ,

I have a question regarding a requirement. I need to import historical GL data into D365, and I have a concern: if I import the historical data, how can I create fixed asset opening balances without double posting, since the GL history already contains the FA transactions?

Thank you.

    could you auto-set the status on import? So essentially import the historic data as inactive to avoid it showing up in current dashboards?

    Generally posting just opening balance make more sense for GLs than all historical data.

    Hi,

    if by "historical data" you mean the historical acquistion and depreciation funds in my view you have two choices:
    1) If you import the Fixed Asset transactions and let those post on the real GL accounts, then when you import the opening GL data, you will have to import instead of the real accounts, some dummy accounts (like 99999 - FA migration or something). ;
    2) Otherwise you can momentarily change the posting profiles of the Fixed Assets to write all in Debitand Credit to a dummy account like 99999 - migration when you import the FA historical transactions. Once imported everything you can then switch to the real posting setup. Then import the GL data with the real values on the real accounts, making sure that they reconcile with the FA transactions. Only drawback here is that if you will in the future Reverse a FA transaction, remember to manually do the adjustment on the accounts because you will be reversing a 99999 against an 99999.

    Hope it helps.

    I want to migrate historical GL data into D365. This data will include only GL balances, covering both acquisition cost and accumulated depreciation. My concern while creating the Fixed Assets subledger, this may result in duplicate entries.
