Read/Write access to external users

Our customer has a few internal users who will have a full CRM licence and a lot of external users who need read/write access to mainly Leads, Account and Contacts etc.

It seems the Team licence for enterprise allows Write access to Accounts, Contacts, Activities, Tasks and notes. If we want to enable write access to Leads as well, what is the solution here?

One solution could be, you can create a custom role and set the privileges and the access level for the Lead Entity in the Custom role as per your requirement. You can assign this Custom role to as external users.

    You can also refer https://community.dynamics.com/enterprise/f/759/t/218074
for more information on Team member license.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks!

I think it's sort of "technically possible" vs intended usage(intended as per the license grant).. According to the licensing guide, Team Member license grants write access to Accounts, Contacts, Activities, Tasks and notes. But, from what I've read so far, it is technically possible to assing just about any security role to such users..

Agree with Alex. You can't use that kind of license if your users access leads.

You could try to negotiate with Microsoft.

Have you considered opening that kind of data to users through the use of portals?

License to use leads entity is for Sales application, and thus should not be used.

Microsoft does not restrict your actual usage by license, but based on your security, but leaves it as your responsibility to make sure  that you are not violating the license agreement.

The main question is are your external users accessing the CRM User Interface or application, or just the data. If they are not accessing the User Interface, you don't require an SL License for the users. See below:

    Internal and External Users

With Microsoft Dynamics 365, you must license each internal user who will access the service. However, access by external (third party) users is included with the subscription and does not require subscription licenses (SLs) External users are users that are not an employee, contractor, or agent of the customer or its affiliates.

In other words, end customers (customers of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 customer) do not require a SL to access Microsoft Dynamics 365 unless these users are accessing Microsoft Dynamics 365 client applications and graphical user interface (GUI). However, end customers may not use Microsoft Dynamics 365 to manage any portions of their business. In this sense, the definition of external users does not extend to the customer or the customer’s affiliate’s contractors, vendors, or agents providing business processes on the customer’s behalf.
