MS scheduled maintenance on the Finance and Operations database

Hi Dynamics Community:

Need advise on this rather technical item.

Received a notification that Microsoft will  perform maintenance on the Finance and Operations database  - Production environment.

Also , part of the communication is - If this is a Tier 2, Tier 3, Tier 4 or Tier 5 Sandbox environment, this maintenance may change how you connect to your Financial Reporting database going forward.   WHAT do you mean by this?  I hope someone can explain in simpler term what is Tier 1, TIer 2, Tier 3, TIer 4, Tier 5 sandbox environment?

Is there a Microsoft document that explains this whole process.  My client has a number of customisations and 3rd party partner solution embedded into their DFO production environment.

I'm very concerned if it is safe that this maintenance run on a production environment with some customizations and ISV?  What are the tasks that should be performed before the date that this maintenance by Microsoft runs?

Is it advisable to opt out of this maintenance.  If yes, what is the implication of not having this maintenance run?

Appreciate any helpful information related to this.  Thanks

Reign

    Hi Reign,

Under the hood MS can have Finance Report DB (management reporter) setting on the same server where your business DB sits, lately they start moving them to dedicated servers.  It could be other DB movement connected to changes in software or hardware availability in your region or maintenance to install updates, etc. All these activities are pure technical and should not impact you because you dont have access to infrastructure and services behind. However, no one knows what dependencies your customisations and ISV could have , so they need to notify you about this , also it usually means that there would be a downtime.

You cannot do a lot, but usually they migrate your Tier - 2 (SAT\UAT) environment , so you can do regression there and stop them if something will go wrong, but it's impossible to tell what exectly you need to test, so test everything.

also Most of the maintenance operations require no action on your end. If there is a critical security update that requires uptake, MS would notify customers.

    Hi

I just want to confirm one more thing about the MS planned maintenance.  I understand that the downtime would be this -->   "During this update, Finance and Operations apps will be unavailable for approximately 180 minutes.

However there is a clause about that 24 hours prior update and cannot do anything with the environment.  "24-hours prior to this update, Lifecycle Services will show a status of 'Maintenance' for your environment. This will return to a status of 'Deployed' when the maintenance has completed. You will not be able to perform environment actions on this environment in Lifecycle Services while there is a status other than 'Deployed'. "

Just want to confirm if anyone has experience this and whether the actual downtime is just 3 hours?

    Thanks,

    Reign

    Hi,

In case there are errors encountered in F&O  after  this update, where and how it can be reported?

    Thanks
