How do I force the synch of an appointment with exchange server?

I have been creating appointments for users and then assigning the appointment to the user.  The appointment is not synching with ms exchange, how can I force the appointments to synch?

alternatively, how do I create an alert for the appointment already set up?  I just don't see how to do this :(
