Spending many hours to open Inventory Closing & Adjustment form

Dear All,

I've got issue when open the Closing and Adjustment form in AX 2012. It takes almost 2 hours to open the form.

For information, previously no issue on this. But after I'm doing the inventory closing for transaction from 2013 till 2016, it become so slow even to only open the form. I did pause the inventory closing process due to the closing itself very slow (takes almost 3.5 days to close 3,000 records). Now the remaining records to close is 300.

My developer did reindex the database. But still the closing & adjustment form couldn't be opened. Another form also get the impact. Once I tried to open the Closing & Adjustment form, another form (i.e. Released Products) would be opened after waiting for 10 minutes. When I'm writing this post, I have been waiting the closing & adjustment form to be open for 30 minutes which I think it's not normal.
I'm using Ax 2012 Featured Pack.

Perhaps you all have experienced something similar with mine.

Appreciate if you could share it. So I know what the action I should done.

Thanks.

Regards,

Grace

    Hi Ievgen,

Thank you for your advice. I will try your method as well. I could only verify the answer by October or November 2016 as I have to escalate this and it would be required some times to get it done.

    Hi Magic1949,

Thank you for your advice. We didn't engage partner. But we do have the application team who experience in AX. I could only verify the answer by October or November 2016 as I have to escalate this and it would be required some times to get it done.

    Hi Vilmos,

Thank you for your advice. I also thinking it's related with Database. I could only verify the answer by October or November 2016 as I have to escalate this and it would be required some times to get it done.

    Hi Ludwig,

The Inventory closing was completed. It took almost 4 days to finish it. I think it make sense for the length of closing process time as my current company never did any inventory closing since 2013. Thank you for your advice but my problem is to open the inventory closing & adjustment form need 1.5 hours which is not make sense for me.

    Regards,

    Grace

By talking about FPK version that probably means 2012 RTM, which does not have the WHS feature with the advanced on-hand/reservation system. Some of the hotfixes might still be applicable, make sure you check them before installing if they are for your AX version, or not. You should check the recommended SQL trace flags for AX, it could be down lock escalation. You might also have TempDB contention on your SQL Server by incorrectly configured TempDB files, slowing down the process of doing large table joins or just creating larger temporary tables.

I would suggest to sit down with your SQL DBA to closely monitor what is going on in your SQL Server while you are running the process, I am sure there is room for improvements. Here are some tips on keeping your AX database healthy: www.daxrunbase.com/.../ax-database-tuning-and-maintenance

The cause is clear, you are trying to close multi periods in one-go. Typically the main cause is out of sequence dates on transactions and trying to average over thousands of transactions.

Consider implementing the following hotfixes (the first two being dependent on your inventory model):

KB 2951209 PORT request DAXSE 1014828: Standard Cost Revaluation reopens closed InventSum records.

KB 3007375 Over layer issue on menu Inventory and Warehouse Management caused by DAXSE 3577412 – Performance – Standard Cost Rounding checks are causing significant performance issues.

KB 3063513 Large number of records in WHSINVENTRESERVE that have all Qty fields = 0 – A new clean up job called “Warehouse management on-hand entries cleanup” has been added under the Inventory management module under Periodic > Clean up

The clean-up job will delete the records in the InventSum and WHSInventReserve table for closed on-hand entries. The impact of running this clean up on a regular basis is significant performance improvements of On-hand related inquiries.*

KB 3112873 This fix optimizes the sp_WHSOnHand stored procedure to use better query plans and make sure it is only called when absolutely necessary.

After implementing the above hotfixes (if relevant), run the following purging jobs for the InventSum and InventDim tables, especially when the volume records in one or both of those tables is high.

Inventory And Warehouse Management/Periodic/Clean up/On-hand entries aggregation by financial dimensions (for InventSum)

Inventory And Warehouse Management/Periodic/Clean up/On-hand entries cleanup (for InventSum)

Inventory And Warehouse Management/Periodic/Clean up/Inventory dimensions cleanup  (for InventDim)

There is much, much more- I suggest get an expert partner involved

    Hi Aquamarine,

You probably need to do additional investigations to find a root cause.

So you can check couple of things while you are facing performance issues, like:

    1) Is there any blocking transactions in SQL

    2) Do you have enough resources on SQL server. Maybe CPU is 100% or disc subsystem is overloaded. Also you need to check tempDB setup it could grow because of sorting and if setup is incorrect it could take a lot of resources as well.

Capturing a trace using AX Trace parser is another approach, using this tool you can find what x++ code causing this issue, if any.

RE: [Ask] Spending many hours to open Inventory Closing & Adjustment form AX 2012

    Hi,

Do you know whether other users experience the same slow performance? Have you tested whether deleting the usage data for your user makes any difference? For the inventory close process there is a feature called close non financial transfers that excludes physical postings from the closing process and which might speed up the process. Please check if you make use of this. Finally, there can be some batch helpers setup in the inventory parameters that distribute calc power and accelerate the closing. Please also check if you use those.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
