Microsoft Dynamics CRM Database Performance Improvement

This is in relation to explore possible database performance improvement areas of Microsoft Dynamics CRM. The current situation is as follows :
In the current application landscape there is an ongoing database growth, which in turn is affecting the performance. On the other hand, due to various typical project constraints, database archival strategy implementation cannot be THE solution as of now.

Under such a situation, is it feasible to find the points where one can probe and fix so as to improve the database performance ?
If yes, how ?
