Is there any other segmentation used in D365FO apart from ledger financial dimensions?

I am just exploring whether there are any other places Microsoft has used segmentation which might work close or similar to financial dimensions? Is it possible for us to develop such segmentation for a custom field and custom dimensions?

    I'm not sure what you're looking for when talking about something similar to dimensions. Financial tags came to my mind, but I have no idea whether it meets your actual requirements.
     
    You can create custom financial dimensions.

    Thanks for your response. I am just trying to create a segmented entry control for a custom field similar to which is looking up the financial dimensions on selecting a ledger account in transaction lines against a main account.
     
    I have a custom field and I have few custom masters setup similar to financial dimensions (But I am not going to use financial dimension). When I lookup data from my control, I am trying to lookup the custom segmentation masters that I have as it looks up the financial dimension while selecting a ledger account. 
     
    For this I am trying to search is there any other functionality Microsoft has implemented as it was for ledger dimensions.

    Hi John,

    The segmented entry control is an extensible control managed with some X++ coding. This is specific applied to financial dimensions. You can check the related classes. Then you might be able to copy and adjust it to your needs with your custom fields.
