Budget Entries editing with Excel unable to add new records

Hello,

I am using BC v20.3 in SaaS.

I have opened budget entries table and need to make a lot of changes there, using Excel is easier for me.

When i open Edit in Excel I do see existing rows, and can update them (description, amount), however I am unable to add new rows.

BC add-in for Excel says that 'Control 'Budget Name' is read-only.

I use the same budget name as in previous record.

Is it possible somehow to make easy and multiple changes (using excel) for Budget entries?

Thank you

    Hi

Maybe I am missing something. But when I go to G/L Budget then in Budget Matrix I only have "Open in Excel" which means I can open it in Excel and not Edit it. Hence, I need to use Budget Export/import to Excel. I heard if page only shows "open in excel" then cannot be Edit (add/remove rows) from add-in. But I never tried this

Hello, I do not use Budget Matrix. Instead search and open "Budget Entries" page with "Edit in Excel" where edit works, but new line does not.

Ran to the same issue as you. Looks like lines need to be add through Budget Matrix (or budget page) then you can edit some info here. I hope someone can provide a different method.

MahGah is correct. For appending to the Budget, you should NOT edit Budget Entries but rather Export the Budget using the function, make your change(s) and Import back.

Ok, but why is needed to go with export / import function, instead of edit in excel. Is it not supported or why?

In my case, it is much easier to enter in budget entries , via excel, having lot of copy paste for whole roles (including the budget entry description field), lot of different dimensions, and exact dates etc.

For budget matrix, it is more for monitoring/reporting or light usage i would say.

Btw, what report (analysis?) in BC you use to compare to budgeted vs actual ? including the dates and dimension criteria of course.

So, any reason why edit, works but new line does not work when doing the Edit in Excel? can this be fixed?

Edit in excel is not supported for budget. Partially because when you enter the budget though Excel it is not a flat line. it goes in layer. Such as g/l then dimension or dimensions  then month

If you notice in budget entries it has Entry No. which means data entered somewhere then showed up here. Hence, system cannot create new entry.

But I can see why you prefer budget entry. Submit your idea here and if it get enough vote then MS will add it to BC

Budget card which included budget matrix is to create a budget.

We use it in account schedule for reports such as income statement which is a main purpose.

    or look into following

    Trial Balance/Budget

    Cost Acctg. Statement/Budget

    Cost Acctg. Balance/Budget
