Is a partner Mandatory for On-Prem to Online Migration

Hello everyone,

My company is looking to migrate online SAAS with minimal cost on the partner side, we have completed the assessment with our partner but they're cost is a bit high. Our assessment results came but with all greens and 2 yellows in which we have stopped using these custom entities but was assured they would still work by Microsoft. We are on the latest major update of CRM currently as well. I installed and maintain our Production/UAT/Dev CRM environments as well as SQL DB...

Is it possible for our team to do the migration on our own without a partner using fast track directly with Microsoft or self-guided?

Do we still have to have a partner nomination?

Any links or direction as to how achieve this? We currently have a Azure tenant but just need direction on what services we need to achieve this...

Any and all input welcomed and thank you

    Hello,
Please go through the process given in the following links. It is not mandatory to have a partner but, the expectation is that you have a dev who can mitigate assessment results and complete pre-requisites for migration. From Microsoft side, we will provide tooling and migration support .

You can contact MS. They run the process called "LCS process" which migrates on-premise to Dynamics online. All you have to do is to provide the database backup, your users list, and few other things etc.

Hameed Hussain Regarding LCS (FastTrack) - what about smaller companies wanting to migrate their D365 from on-prem to online but do not qualify for FastTrack due to insufficient license seat count (or they spend less than $100K with Microsoft annually)?

@Hameed Hussain thank you for the reply, question... do you know if it is possible to do LCS process without partner?

RE: Is a partner Mandatory for On-Prem to Online Migration

No, a partner is not mandatory for on-premises to online migration of Dynamics 365. However, engaging with a certified partner is highly recommended to ensure a smooth and successful migration process.

    Let me explain why.

Dynamics 365 is a complex platform that requires technical expertise and specialized knowledge to manage and customize. Migrating from on-premises to online involves various tasks, such as configuring the online environment, exporting and importing data, and testing the migrated data. These tasks require technical skills, and if not performed correctly, they can result in data loss, system downtime, or other issues that can impact business operations.

A certified partner can provide the necessary expertise and resources to help ensure a successful migration. Here are some of the benefits of working with a partner:

Experience and expertise: A certified partner has experience in migrating Dynamics 365 from on-premises to online and can bring a wealth of technical expertise to the project. They can help identify potential issues, plan the migration strategy, and execute the migration process efficiently and effectively.

Access to tools and resources: The partners have access to a variety of migration tools and resources that can help automate the migration process and reduce the risk of errors or data loss. They can also provide guidance on licensing, security, and compliance requirements.

Proactive support and training: A certified partner can provide proactive support and training to help ensure a smooth transition to the online environment. They can help train end-users, address post-migration issues, and provide ongoing support and maintenance to ensure optimal performance of the online environment.

While engaging with a Microsoft partner is not mandatory, it can be a wise investment for smaller companies that lack the necessary technical expertise or resources to manage the migration process on their own.
