Configuration Package Will Not Import Depreciation Book (5612)

Posted on by 3,480

Hi:

Although I receive no errors, the Configuration Package for Depreciation Book (5612) will not import the field for No. of Depreciation Years.

At first, I formatted that column in Excel as a number with two decimal places.  When that data would not import, I formatted that column as text.

Still, when I review my assets after importing, the field displays 0.00 for all assets.

Also, I would have thought that the import would have been "smart enough" to have imported the Depreciation Ending Date for the assets.  But, it did not import those values either.

How can I get this data to successfully import?

Thanks!

John

    Hi there,

I am currently implementing Fixed Assets in BC and had the same exact problem. For some reason, my uploads processed successfully with no errors, but my depreciation years section of FA card in BC was blank and no depreciation date was calculated.  I hard coded the date + xx years in excel for testing purposes in a test company and took another stab at the upload today while implementing in production.  The upload was successful on the first try. Depreciation years was successfully populated and the date was calculated accurately.  Can't speak for the exact solution, though it seems like starting from scratch if possible is the way to go as all the other suggested solutions in this thread were attempted. I will summarize some of them here:

Include no. of depreciating years only, exclude no. of depreciating months and defined/hard-coded depreciation end date

I did not override the number format when I dumped into excel. I simply pasted my number of years with no changes.

    John,

If you can attach the configuration package then we can review and reply back. I can also import into my play sandbox.

    Thanks,

    Steve

John as you can see in MahGah's example, he did not import the depreciation ending date. BC will calculate when you apply the data using the starting depreciation date and the number of years. Also import number or years or number of months, not both; BC will calculate whichever one you do not provide.

    Hi John

I tried the method to see if I encounter the same issue.

    1) First I downloaded Table 5612 and added new item (in yellow) to it. I added year but did not change format of excel or anything. I only downloaded fields recommended by Steven

    2) I tried to upload but got the error message

    3) I created the item in FA (using 5600 table)

    4) I uploaded the 5612 table again without issue.

    5) Then I downloaded the 5612 table and saw the year. as you can see format of the year changed from my upload version.

Can you test this in different environment like different sandbox and see if you have a success? Also I recommend to create new configuration package and test.

John, are you importing the depreciation ending date?

No errors.  But, the original issue remains.

Again, the issue is that No. of Depreciation Years is not populating.

    John,

If you are using a Config Pack to Table 5612, you are only setting up the Depreciation Book therefore you will only import a few fields:

To record the Acquisition and Accum. Deprecation you will use Table 5621 FA Journal Line that updates the Fixed Asset sub-ledger only.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Can you please post screenshot of Excel configuration package with sample populated data? Maybe that can help
