MES in AX 2012 - using multiple operations simultaneously

Posted on by

Good morning,

I was hoping someone would be able to advise if its possible to use MES within AX 2012 and report/work on multiple operations simultaneously.

This is a new implementation for us and I've been advised that MES is a linear manufacturing function!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you

You can work on multiple orders at once. If you multi select orders in the time registration (jmgRegistration) form you will work on multiple orders.

If you add the bundle function (a button is available in the terminal setup) you can effectively select if you want to add a new job to your existing work or end previous work.

On the employee you can set if the user should have the default bundle on or off...

There are multiple ways to decide your parallel cost to orders. I use estimated or net requirement. This is set up in the manufacturing execution parameters.

I have done a Time and attendance and manufacturing execution guide on my blog. I hope you find it interesting.

Hi Fredrik, many thanks for responding, I will look at this and your blog. Its very early on in the implementation but this gives me confidence MES will work for us.

    Thanks again.

Hi Fredrik, please could you confirm that multiple operations within a route can be worked/reported on simultaneously? Thank you

    Yes.

You can have a sequential production route:

    Opr.1: 10 - 20

    Opr.2: 20 - 30

    Opr.3: 30 - 0

You can still work on them all at the same time.

    Or use a route network:

    Opr.1: 10-30

    Opr.2: 20-30

    Opr.3: 30-0

You can work on all of these as well at the same time.

There are rules you can set to ensure that you can not report an item finished before all work is complete. You can also leave jobs open even after you have completed production, reported finished and even sold and shipped an item to the customer. Posting time to the order as clean up or post production activities occur.
