Make checklinks go faster

We have a bunch of records to run check links against

Inventory Stock Count 15K
Bill of Materials 55K
Inventory Other 7.5M
Sales 21.5M
Purchasing 2.6M
Financial 3.6M
System 15K
Company 38K

The problem is, it takes a long time to run check links against even one of these "areas"  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to speed this up?  I have a hunch it's not a server performance issue as much as the way GP was written.

Thanks

It would be more manageable if you were on a schedule such that you did only certain logical files per day. You don't have to do them all. Do them in small batches.

    Kind regards,

    Thanks for the response.

Our data set is large enough that it won't finish in a weekend either :-(

Is it worth the hassle to temporarily move the db to a faster server and run?  I get the impression "no" and that it's not really hardware dependent

    RE: Make checklinks go faster

    Hi,

This has been a problem for folks with large databases. Most of my customers run it at night (overnight) using a macro and a schedule. The macro logs on to GP at a specific time, runs checklinks and then exits GP.

It doesn't go any faster, but they don't have to sit around waiting for it. For those who have transaction levels too large for it to finish overnight, they use the weekend. The other thing is that you can run checklinks on selective logical files. Again, it won't make the process any faster in the long run, but checklinks doesn't need to be run against every logical file. There is some server performance issues - I've noticed that when they've gotten new equipment. They also run it on the SQL server, not from a workstation, that does speed it up (they tell me).

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
